Eco Kart shows the way to GO GREEN!

Students from 37 colleges across India put on display environment-friendly karts at a three-day 'Eco Kart' competition held recently in Greater Noida's Gautam Buddha University, to promote green engineering. The competition, which is in its second year, has been inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make In India campaign. The single-passenger karts designed by students are economic and environment friendly, as they run on electricity. Once fully charged, they run for three hours, at a top speed of 60 kmph. They do not have gears and are user-friendly. Brajesh Tripathi, assistant professor in the school of engineering, GB University, said the karts will be examined by experts for their efficiency, innovation and design. "Their manufacturing, effectiveness, innovation and other attributes will be observed, and points will be awarded accordingly. The driver's ability will also be tested. We will award teams for novelty and driving skills," he said. University officials said they had received 83 proposals from various colleges to participate in the competition. "We scrutinized and shortlisted 37 of them. These teams have worked hard for three months to come up with their Eco Kart models," said an organizing member. These models are now ready for the dynamic round, which comprises technical inspection and other checks. In 2013-14, students from 33 colleges across the country had displayed their environment-friendly karts here. "Last year, the maximum speed of the karts was 60 kmph. This time, we are expecting some to cross 80 kmph. We also expect the models to be more efficient," said an official. The average manufacturing cost of an Eco Kart is around Rs 50,000. University officials said the aim is to help students to grow interest in automobiles. Officials said they may file patents of innovations.View Original Post

UPES students shine at National EcoKart championship

UPES students added yet another feather to the University cap by virtue of being the only qualifying team from the State and securing the second position in an all India competition called “National Eco Kart Championship 2014” organised by the SAE (Society of Automobile Engineers) in collaboration with Gautam Budh University (GUB), Noida. The first place was awarded to Vindya Institute of Technology from Indore. Explaining the details of this competition, the Director (Media Affairs) Arun Dhand informed that SAE encourages students to inculcate and imbibe the entrepreneurial skills through such competitions across colleges in the country where students are pursuing their technical Degree / Diploma courses . “Eco Kart 2014” was another such competition organized by them under the ‘Go Green Concept’. The task of this competition was to Design, Develop and Fabricate a single passenger kart which is powered by an AC or DC Motor having batteries as the source of energy. A set of rules were provided to all the participating teams right in the beginning wherein parameters of various technical aspects of the vehicle to be designed and constructed were given. To encourage the innovative spirit restriction was placed on the usage of traditional materials for building the chassis, thereby forcing the students to use alternative materials and alloys. A total of 71 Engineering Institutes participated in this national competition. The First qualifying round was the virtual round which was presentation of the basic design based on the specified technical parameters including Self weight of the vehicle, Ground clearance, Wheel Base, Power of the Driving Motor and above all the cost factor. Only 33 teams out of the 71 were able to qualify this round. These 33 teams were given the clearance to fabricate their respective vehicles in their campuses in a given time frame and were given a specified date to reach the campus of GBU with the vehicles to go through the Dynamic rounds which included technical Inspection and field testing of the vehiclesView original Post

Gitam Students Design Eco Kart

The students of GITAM University at Rudraram in Medak district designed an eco-kart that runs with electrical power and reaches a top speed of 60 kmph. The specialty of this vehicle is that it can be driven by using a motor with batteries which works more efficiently than normal go-kart vehicles that run on fuel driven engine. Eco-friendly technology This type of vehicles is eco-friendly and helps in saving fuel resources. The batteries can be easily charged by using solar panels and the vehicle can be run more efficiently and for more time when compared to normal vehicles. “The motor is efficient enough to be used for go-kart,” said V. Devi Prasad, a third year mechanical student. The vehicle was also fitted with three electrical gears. The vehicle with light weight chassis and sufficient strength can carry about 200 kg in addition to the driver. Once charged for four hours, the vehicle can be run for 100 minutes without break. However, the run time depends on the speed and load conditions. In no load condition, it can cover more than 100 km, Mr. Devi Prasad said. As many as 15 students drawn from mechanical, electrical and electronics and instrumentation engineering divisions formed a group and designed the vehicle. After struggling for about 45 days and spending about Rs 1.6 lakh, the students were able to come out with a working model. The vehicle was designed for ‘ECOKART -2014’ competitions that would be held at Noida on February 5, 6 and 7 being organised by Society of Automotive Engineers.View Original Post
